  1. Introduction

1.1 GIBT Campus is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff, faculty, visitors, and contractors. This Health and Safety Policy outlines our commitment to preventing accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses, and to complying with all applicable health and safety laws, regulations, and standards.

 

  1. Responsibilities

2.1 The Health and Safety Committee is responsible for overseeing the implementation and effectiveness of health and safety policies and procedures.

2.2 All staff, faculty, students, visitors, and contractors have a responsibility to:

  1. Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions.
  2. Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures, and instructions provided by GIBT Campus.
  3. Report any hazards, incidents, or concerns related to health and safety to the appropriate authority.

 

  1. Risk Assessment and Management

3.1 GIBT Campus shall conduct regular risk assessments of its premises, activities, and processes to identify and mitigate potential health and safety hazards.

3.2 Control measures shall be implemented to eliminate or minimize risks to health and safety, and where risks cannot be eliminated, appropriate measures shall be taken to control and manage them.

 

  1. Health and Safety Procedures

4.1 GIBT Campus shall establish and maintain written health and safety procedures covering areas such as:

  1. Emergency procedures, including evacuation and first aid.
  2. Safe use of equipment and machinery.
  3. Handling and storage of hazardous substances.
  4. Manual handling and ergonomic practices.
  5. Work at height and confined space entry.
  6. Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  7. Fire safety precautions and fire drills.
  8. Workplace violence and harassment prevention.
  9. Health and safety training and induction.

 

  1. Health and Safety Training

5.1 GIBT Campus shall provide appropriate health and safety training to all staff, faculty, students, and other individuals as necessary to enable them to perform their duties safely and effectively.

5.2 Training programs shall cover topics such as:

  1. General health and safety awareness.
  2. Specific hazards and risks relevant to their roles.
  3. Emergency procedures and evacuation drills.
  4. Safe use of equipment and machinery.
  5. Procedures for reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses.

 

  1. Health Promotion

6.1 GIBT Campus shall promote the health and well-being of its community through initiatives such as:

  1. Providing access to health and wellness resources and support services.
  2. Promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices.
  3. Offering mental health support and counseling services.
  4. Raising awareness of health-related issues through educational campaigns and events.

 

  1. Monitoring and Review

7.1 The effectiveness of this Health and Safety Policy shall be monitored regularly through inspections, audits, incident investigations, and feedback mechanisms.

7.2 The policy shall be reviewed periodically to ensure its ongoing suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness, and to incorporate any changes in legislation or best practices.

 

 

  1. Compliance

8.1 All members of the university community are required to comply with this Health and Safety Policy and associated procedures. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action in accordance with relevant university policies and procedures.
