- Introduction
1.1 GIBT Campus recognizes the importance of regular attendance and active engagement in academic activities to ensure the success and progress of students. This Attendance and Engagement Policy outlines the expectations, requirements, and procedures related to attendance and participation in university courses and activities.
- Objectives
2.1 The objectives of this policy are to:
- Promote academic success by encouraging regular attendance and active engagement in classes and university activities.
- Provide clear expectations and guidelines for students regarding attendance requirements.
- Support students who may face challenges that impact their ability to attend classes or participate in activities.
- Ensure consistency and fairness in the application of attendance policies across all departments and programs.
- Attendance Requirements
3.1 Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes, lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory sessions, and other compulsory activities as outlined in the course syllabus or instructions provided by the instructor.
3.2 Attendance may be recorded electronically, through sign-in sheets, or other methods as determined by the instructor or department.
3.3 Non-compulsory activities, such as optional seminars or workshops, may have attendance encouraged but not mandatory.
- Engagement Requirements
4.1 In addition to attendance, students are expected to actively engage in academic activities, including participation in class discussions, group work, presentations, and other interactive learning opportunities.
4.2 Engagement may be assessed through various methods, such as participation grades, completion of assigned tasks, contribution to group projects, and feedback from instructors.
- Absences and Excused Absences
5.1 Students are responsible for notifying instructors in advance of any planned absences, such as medical appointments or family emergencies, and for making arrangements to catch up on missed work.
5.2 In cases of unexpected absences due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances, students should notify their instructors as soon as possible and provide appropriate documentation, such as a medical certificate, where required.
5.3 Instructors have the discretion to excuse absences and provide alternative arrangements for missed assignments or assessments based on the circumstances and documentation provided by the student.
- Consequences of Non-Attendance
6.1 Failure to meet attendance and engagement requirements may result in academic penalties, such as deductions from participation grades, loss of credit for missed assignments or assessments, or in extreme cases, withdrawal from the course.
6.2 Instructors will communicate the consequences of non-attendance and engagement in their course syllabus or at the beginning of the semester.

7.1 GIBT Campus provides support services to assist students who may face challenges that impact their attendance or engagement, such as counseling services, disability support, and academic advising.
7.2 Students are encouraged to seek assistance from these support services if they experience difficulties that affect their ability to attend classes or participate in academic activities.
- Review and Revision
8.1 This Attendance and Engagement Policy shall be reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness and relevance to changing circumstances and educational practices.
8.2 Feedback from students, faculty, and staff shall be solicited and considered in the review process.
